Palace – 5 stars
Adress: Rue Adhémar-Fabri 8, 1201 Geneva – Switzerland
Concours on invitation : 1st price – 2019
Subject of the competition: renovation of the lobby, reception, bar, restaurant and lounge/restaurant area.
Cécile Morel Architecture d’Intérieur won the competition before the hotel closes for good in August 2020. The hotel has been severely affected by the coronavirus crisis.
In 2011, the hotel was taken over by the Dorchester Collection hotel group. After a few years of operation in a Rocco Forte décor, the group decided to rethink the spaces, to rediscover the palace’s spirit of yesteryear while bringing in a modern touch.

Our initial mission was to immerse ourselves in history and rediscover the atmosphere of the 1900s.
It was essential to offer different worlds for each of the spaces, but one that was both traditional and modern.
For the lobby and restaurant/lounge, we selected furniture with classic lines, but with plain fabrics to add a touch of modernity. Velvet and silk curtains in light shades of beige and marron glacé add a timeless elegance. Black marble and ebony furniture, combined with glass light fittings, underline the refinement of the period.
The lobby, because of its imposing size, has been divided into different zones, each with its own furniture to create a dynamic and welcoming rhythm.
The restaurant/lounge has been designed to offer a cosy, intimate atmosphere, preserving the original woodwork while adding a magnificent chandelier as a centrepiece.
In the bar, we opted for contemporary, comfortable, softly shaped furniture in ebony wood, to contrast with the pop atmosphere of previous years. A beige moiré carpet was chosen for its soothing effect, while the spotlights in the ceiling were replaced by beautiful opaline hanging lights for a warmer ambience. The back bar was covered in mirrors to visually enlarge the space and give it a lighter, more spacious feel.”
